COUNTDOWN TO OUR ANNUAL TRIP!

Every August, Starfish representatives travel to the Dominican Republic, bringing the funds from the generous support of our donors to help the identified children. The Starfish team spends over a week taking pre-organized groups of children to stores to physically purchase the uniforms and school supplies in the communities there. Following the annual trip, all donors receive an annual report that includes photos and information on all of the children as well as letters from some of the children and families supported that year.

In 2007, while Starfish was still in the process of getting organized, a total of 25 children in the community of La Romana were provided everything they needed to attend school. We have seen amazing growth, and in August of last year God blew us away as Starfish was able to provide over 500 children across three communities in the DR with the supplies they needed to attend school.

Without an education, many children turn to drugs and prostitution. Studies show that less than half graduate from high school. Your gift brings hope not only to the children you help, but the entire community.

Greetings to you and your family. I am writing this letter to thank God and also you for the help you have given us. Some years, my parents do not have the money to buy my school uniform. But with the help you give us, we spend less and save for other necessities. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help you have given us. Thank you very much!

I want to thank you for all the effort you have made each year to allow me to have my school supplies every year. Thank you because I am a blessed child and I feel happy because now I can be prepared for school…as well as the other children. Thank you for everything and may God continue to help you bless many more children.

  My son, Jackio had Running shoes stolen by 123_Makif_Mememo He proposed a trade but then stole the shoes by exchanging nothing! This is not a game for thieves and trickery! When my son confronted him, he said “Ha Ha Sucker!!!” This person needs to be penalized and he should be forced to return the shoes!

      I’m sorry for that! He is a 9 year old boy who loved the game. I know he was very upset but I had no idea that he used profanity. Unfortunately, I prefer not to share my email on an open forum. He will be punished for his actions! I do believe however that he was bullied and taken advantage of and that the other person should be disciplined as well. I hope you will consider this being a suspension rather than a ban. Thank you for your response.
